How to figure fence sections & posts
3: Figuring number of section
- Our styles of fence come with the posts
set at specific dimensions depending on the
style of fence. THIS DIMENSION IS FROM THE
CENTER OF ONE POST TO CENTER OF THE NEXT
POST
- You must know what the post spacing is
for the fence style you chose. Your style or
styles of fence will be 1 of 3
dimensions.
- 72" or 6'
- 96" or 8'
- 93" or 7.75'
REMEMBER IF YOU ARE ORDERING TWO DIFFERENT STYLES OF FENCE FOR YOUR PROJECT EACH STYLE MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT POST SPACING
- Go to your layout drawing. The dimension you have for each stretch of fence is now ready to be converted into sections.
- EXAMPLE: If you are going to install
"Richmond" Style the post
are on 93" centers or 7.75'. Let say that
your drawing has a stretch of fence
measuring 131'. Take 131 and divide that
number by 7.75. The answer will give you
the number of sections you will need to
complete that run. In this example 131
divided by 7.75 = 16.9. So in this
instance you would need 17 sections of
fence to complete this stretch of your
fence. If you were installing the
"Birmingham" style those posts are on 72"
centers or 6' In this case take 131 and
divide by 6. 131 divided by 6 = 21.83. You
would need to 22 sections of fence to
complete this 131' stretch of fence using
a "Birmingham" style fence.
Always round up not down to prevent
from running short of material.
- When you figure the number of sections
needed to complete each stretch, write that number down next to that stretch dimension and circle it.
- You will have to do this with each
specific stretch of fence no matter how short
the individual stretch of fence is.
- Double check your calculations that you
circled
